Gravity is Heavy (A BonBon)
Gravity is the natural force which pulls us down and holds us there. It is
interesting that the same word is used for the downward pull of mental seriousness.
A weighty matter, if taken seriously, will force us down, down, down. Hello, gloom
and doom. The mental and physical pulls of inertia are unremitting, undeniable,
and in the end inevitable, that is unless
UNLESS we assert the effort to want something else (almost anything else) and
want it so badly that we will challenge ourselves to override that downward pull
and our own reluctance to act.
UNLESS we are willing to learn from children, the only things that gravity
cannot grab, who constantly look up, see with awe, demonstrate the upward force
of growth, and show that life can be fun. It is children who can raise us, if we
can abandon the notion that we raise them.
UNLESS we can seek, find and remember every day that our willing efforts make
a difference, though short-lived against the weight of entropy (the tendency of
energy to run down and stop) and discouragement.
UNLESS we learn that the omnipresent enemy is a passive, mindless force that
can be briefly defeated by any active effort we choose to make. We have to
repeatedly assert ourselves and our values. We have to fight the external and
internal urges to relax our vigilance against indifference.
If we cant muster the will to sustain the unremitting effort to go UP
or Stay UP, well, then D
O
W
  N we go.
