Love Letter to a Cat (A BonBon)
I love the gentle way you insist upon being at the center of my desk as I
attempt to work around youmaking it plain whats really important here.
I love the way you can turn anything into an object for play, and then explore
its endless possibilities.
I love the way you refuse to notice my call, and then come in stealthily as
soon as you think it is your idea.
I love the attentive and rapt way you watch the tiniest details, ready to
engage or pounce in a flash.
I love the way you gaze down from high places, the regal sovereign of all you
survey.
I love the way you make yourself vulnerable to medisplaying how totally you
trust me, rely on me, and want me to care about nothing but you.
I love the way you seek out visitors (selected by some criteria that only you
can detect) for special attentioninstant and total devotionand then, as
arbitrarily, dismiss them.
I love the way you shift so abruptly from languid inertia to dynamic speed,
and then as abruptly go back to laziness again.
I love the way you embody gracefulness in every movementas you extend
out a paw, yawn with all of your being, and sink into a mound of fur.
In these and in many other ways you remind me:
- That my business obligations are not that important
- That life is fun, dynamic and ever-fresh
- That curiosity is well rewarded with marvelous discoveries
- That devotion is a precious gift
- That it is possible to meet events on my own terms
- That play is always an available choice
- That it is wise to be alert for unexpected pleasures
- That simple is enough.
